More information

UmRäumen e.V. was founded in 2025 as an independent platform to strengthen and professionalise artistic practices in public spaces in Leipzig and to establish a network. Through artistic, art education and (socio-)cultural projects, the association aims to create conditions for cultural production that focus on democratic, inclusive and equal coexistence among all parts of urban society, taking into account interdisciplinary and transcultural approaches. At the same time, the aim is to raise awareness of local realities and urban contexts through art in public spaces, encourage active participation and offer various forms of cultural education.

Julia Kurz is a curator, author and art educator, and has been developing the Stadtkuratorin Leipzig program for the Cultural Office of the City of Leipzig since the beginning of 2023. Since 2006, she has worked as a freelancer with cultural organizations and associations from various disciplines and contexts, as well as for institutions such as the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig, the Werkleitz Gesellschaft Halle, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, and the neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst Berlin. She has been involved in numerous exhibitions, public programs and interventions, workshops and publications; one example is the Public Art Worker project series of educational art programs in public spaces in Halle (Saale) and Dresden; another example is the app “Eine neue Bewegung: Re*mapping Leipzig” – an artistic perspective on Leipzig's feminist history in Leipzig's urban landscape.

From 2014 to 2016 Julia developed the course “Exhibiting and Mediating” at the BURG Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, and from 2016 to 2023 she was research associate at the Cultures of the Curatorial masters program at the Institute for Theory at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig.

Leipzig based Julia Kurz is the head of Stadtkuratorin Leipzig

Tania Kolbe is an educator, researcher, and mediator in the fields of art, culture, and political education. She is active in diverse communities and is committed to the legacy of East German migrant life and colonial history. Her central concern is to shed a critical light on Leipzig's colonial history, and point out its continuities. She attaches great importance to the dialogical exchange of knowledge, in order to empower, enable, and strengthen people.

Clara Hofmann lives and works in Leipzig, as a freelance curator and author. As an author, she writes for artists and art institutions, and was editorially responsible for the publication of the magazine of the Akademie der Künste Sachsen-Anhalt. In collaboration with Gregor Peschko and Adrian Lueck, she runs the art space IDEAL in east Leipzig. She has worked as a curator and producer for the Bündnis internationaler Produktionshäuser, the Kunstverein Wolfsburg, the Kunsthochschule Kassel, and with projects in the independent performing and visual arts scene, among others. Her work operates at the conjuncture of art and politics, and thematically integrates feminist methods, mechanisms of historiography, public space, political movements and activism, as well as aspects of pop culture.

Julia Wassner works as a producer with Stadtkuratorin Leipzig. Julia deals artistically and theoretically with material cultures, in particular with textiles in fine art and theatrical settings. She has worked as a freelance costume designer for municipal and state theaters including Schauspiel Leipzig, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Staatstheater Hannover, and Berliner Ensemble, as well as independent theater and dance productions and art and project spaces. Since 2013, she has been developing textiles as creative and narrative projects. She studied dramaturgy and integrated media at the Theater Academy “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig, and Design Studies at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. In the program “Stadtkuratorin Leipzig” she supports networking with communities, and facilitates production.
